Adwords Traps
Google is a great company and their Adwords product has changed the world of advertising. It has made a lot of people rich, but there are some down-sides.
Google has some built-in traps that new account owners should know about. If you make a wrong choice during Setup then your allocated spend could be gone in a flash! Remember, they (Google) have your banking info, and if you make a mistake they will probably not issue a refund.
1. Don't use "Adwords Express", "Smart Campaigns" or "Performance Max Campaigns". They are awful. Use a regular Google Search account if you are trying to generate leads.
2. One of the first decisions you must make when setting up a campaign is whether to choose the "Search Network Only" or the "Search Network with Display Select". Always Check the "Search Network Only" box. If you want to use the "Display Network", and as a newbie you probably don't, you would make it a separate campaign. And always deselect the Google Partners box.
3. Every time Google tells you that a particular choice is "recommended", view that choice as a red flag. It may be OK to choose, but it probably isn't. Read about it or give me a call for an explanation.
4. Google will provide suggestions or "Recommendations". Many of these suggestions are for Google's benefit. Maybe a couple of them is worthwhile.
