Adwords Tips
1. In most cases, Location Targeting, in the Settings tab under Location Options (Advanced) should be set to "People in my targeted location".
2. Take advantage of the free Adwords "Ad Assets". There are many of them available, including Sitelinks, Callouts, Structured Snippets, Call, Promotion, Image, and Price Extension. They make your ad much bigger and offer more ways to entice your customer to click on your ad. Google decides which if any to show, and they only show them if your Ad Rank is high.
3. Every time Google tells you that a particular choice is "recommended", view that choice as a red flag. It may be OK to choose, but it probably isn't. Read about it or give me a call for an explanation.
4. Google will provide frequent Recommendations. Many of these suggestions are trash. Maybe one out of five is worthwhile.
5. Use the "Ad Preview and Diagnosis" Tool from the "Tools" dropdown box to test your keywords ads in various locations and devices. It allows you to "spoof" Google Ads into thinking you are in a different location and/or a different device.
6. One of the first decisions you must make when setting up a campaign is whether to choose the "Search Network Only" or the "Search Network with Display Select". Always Check the "Search Network Only" box. If you want to use the "Display Network", (as a newbie you don't), you would make it a separate campaign. And deselect the Google Search Partners box.
7. Be certain to understand the five keyword match types- Broad Match, Modified Broad Match, Phrase Match, Exact Match, and Negative Match. Beginners should avoid broad match, and concentrate on Modified Broad Match, Phrase Match, Exact Match, and Negative Match keywords.
8. Avoid "Adwords Express" or "Smart Campaigns". Use a regular Google Ads account.
9. Write Responsive Search Ads or possibly "Call Only Ads"
